Frequently asked questions

What sets Greendale Garden Cemetery apart from others?

Greendale Garden Cemetery stands apart as Sydney’s sole dedicated eco-friendly burial grounds, setting a new standard in the region. We have pioneered a unique approach, blending traditional lawn burials with natural burial philosophies.

This innovative combination not only minimises the environmental impact of burials but also ensures that loved ones can directly visit the gravesite, fostering a deeper connection and sense of peace.

What burial options do you offer?

We offer eco-friendly burial plots, and ash burials. Our cemetery is dedicated to sustainable treatment of the natural surroundings.

What are eco-friendly burial principles?

The body is not embalmed and treated only with natural mortuary care and is shrouded within a biodegradable coffin/casket made of timber, wicker, bamboo, biodegradable cardboard or a shroud.

A shroud or clothing if worn, is made of natural fibres, not polyester etc. The optimum material is made of natural, protein-based fibres. Organic plant-based fibres such as hemp, linen and cotton are also acceptable.

The grave has a simple marker made of sandstone, rather than a large headstone (Greendale Garden cemetery has a specific guide for grave markers).

Are there specific visiting hours for the cemetery?

Yes, the cemetery is open for visitation during specific hours. Please refer to the 'Contact us' page directly for the most up-to-date visiting hours.

Can we pre-plan burial arrangements for the future?

Yes, we offer pre-planning services to help families make thoughtful decisions in advance. Pre-planning ensures that your wishes are honoured and eases the burden on your loved ones.

What are the costs associated with cemetery services?

Our pricing is transparent and based on the chosen burial option and services. For detailed information on costs, please refer to our pricing and fee schedule or contact our office.

Can we personalise markers?

Yes, we encourage personalisation to honour your loved one’s unique life. Our team will guide you through the acceptable options for creating a meaningful memorial.

Do you offer grief support resources for families?

Yes, we understand the challenges of grief and offer referrals to support families during their healing journey. Please enquire about our grief referral services.

Is the cemetery open to all religious denominations?

Yes, Greendale Garden Cemetery is a multi-denominational space, welcoming families of all faiths and beliefs to find comfort and peace.
